I remember when clamp meters with both AC and DC current (amps) were well over $200 !! So I was surprised to see this one for around $40. AND it hooks up to your phone to provide data logging as well. Awesome! First thing I did after installing the battery was try out the clamp. I clamped it around a power cord and yes, it read zero! I had forgotten that you have to use the clamp around a single wire. Not around a power cord with both wires. So next I hooked an inverter to a 12v power supply and plugged in a fan. The DC lead read 5.6 amps. Just about right. It also has a light with hold function to save the reading if you have to use it in some dark enclosed area and you want to read the meter after measuring. Mine came with a red dial and I could not see the arrow, so I took out a sharpie and marked it black so I could see it. I'm guessing this is a good idea as well if the dial on yours is black. Perhaps use a silver sharpie to mark the arrow. Downside is its pretty big. I wish it was smaller. And the clamp has one heck of a spring on it. Its a workout to open the jaws. But I'm very happy with it. It has a very nice case and in time, I should be able to learn all the functions.

Additional info: 2 things you need to know. When you turn to Volts (1st position), its in Auto mV mode. If from there you measure volts, it will show the value correctly, but when you pull the leads off your source, it will start jumping around (fluctuate). Push the RANGE button. Now in mV mode (Auto turned off). Still jumps around. Press the RANGE button again and this puts it in Volt mode and guess what? It now shows a zero setting. Same reading when I test the source (using different batteries), but it no longer jumps around. Yeah! Also, if you hit the REL button, you better know what you are doing. It does a calculation that changes the value you see on the screen. I NEVER use this because all I want to do is measure volts and amps. Mainly DC volts and amps. And let me add that using the clamp will NOT work with cables with multiple wire leads. I'm guessing this is when you use REL, but for me, I just use it for battery leads and single wires, so I just keep that in mind. Hope this helps people!
