I assume it is fairly accurate based on weather report in my area. It's pretty fun to go outside and monitor wind speed. It has ability to store wind speeds. It is rechargeable and lightweight. One of those things you wouldn't think about getting but when gifts with it, it is surprisingly entertaining and enjoyable. The price is very reasonable.
First, it work well. I a little bit slow to register value, but I guess it important to get an accurate mesure. I tried to capture burst of wind during a storm, and it didn't really register them. So it better made for a constant air flow of a few seconds.
The touch pad is nice for protecting the key, but I would have prefered actual key with force feedback.
The image show some kind of thing you attach at the top of the unit, but it doesn't come with it, it optional but I couldn't see where to get it.
It pretty large as well, I own other that are smaller, but I can't see if I like the larger or smaller form factor... Both similar except tool box space used.
If you are troubleshooting HVAC, trying to figure out why one room hotter or colder than another these devices do miracles, to help you troubleshoot room cooling / heating issues.
So CFM Anemometer Rechargeable comes with internal battery disconnected and a little screwdriver, no issue. Process of connecting this battery takes about one minute. It comes with the 1 page manual - you will need it. The screen is a bit hard to read, but turning background light on - solved the issue for us. [hold light for 3 seconds]. (minor)
The biggest issue for me was imperial values vs metrics at cross section. You can easily switch this device from m/s to cfm - great. But obviously any anemometer needs to know what your duct cross section is. Unfortunately this device will only accept cross-sections in m2. Would have been better if just take mm. Or sq in, sq ft.
That is where you are running into a trouble. You need to keep converting: 4" duct - has cross section 0.087 sq ft - 0.008 m2 (device requires). 5" - 0.013, 6" - 0.018, 7" - 0.025, 8" - 0.032 etc. Entering it is painful. You have to enter numbers and move the dot all while cross converting from sq ft to m2.
[not clear why would manufacture even allow above 1 m2. That is way too big of a duct.
Good news device works. It also can do min CFM / Max CFM / real CFM.
As you see in my picture I have 5" duct - designed for 50CFM at 0.5 ESP and instead it supplies 42CFM. So I know my duct vent underperforms. [I know know, that we can probably adjust our blower speed increase total system CFMs]
The battery life is really good, the fan is nice and smooth and sensitive so it picks up almost any air moving, the settings are easy to navigate, and it's rechargeable, It can be a useful item to have. The product is good.
Got this for general home HVAC and weather use to satisfy the geek in me. Useful for measuring air handler and condenser fan performance and ramp-up/down.
The fan is fairly sensitive, and it starts to spin and record air movement by just picking up the tool.
Like another reviewer said, the units display on the LCD screen is tiny and hard to read. Turning on the backlight helps for me, and that's pretty much the second step now after turning the unit on.
Found the instruction sheet hidden inside the pocket of the included case, but still had some difficulty setting up the tool as the user interface isn't very intuitive and the instructions take a bit of deciphering.
With some fiddling you can change the displayed units for air speed, air flow and temperature. With a lot of fiddling with the unit and instruction manual you can change the input area measurement used for calculating flow from square meters to square feet (long press on the unit button in the flow mode).
After a lot of trial and error, I was able to input an area value as small as 0.001 (e.g. 0.001 square meter) by entering 0001 and then moving the decimal point left.
Happily, the settings were maintained after turning the unit off and back on.
I did not have a second anemometer to compare accuracy to. It measured indoor walking speed at 2.7 mph, which is about right. However, its air temperature reading was higher than multiple other calibrated thermometers by 2 to 4F.
Overall, it has its shortcomings, but still a very useful and interesting instrument to have around.
